The Forum
An open call for proposals from artists, curators and institutions — pitched live on stage during SF Art Week, to a room that includes the people who can fund them.
We are stronger working together
Meet the Moment began because separate organizations doing separate good work in the same city, in the same year, add up to less than they should. The Forum is the part of the initiative that acts on that directly: it puts proposals, and the people who might pay for them, in one room on one night.
It is an accelerator for Meet the Moment projects. The grant is small on purpose — it is enough to start with, and the stage is what it is really for. Most of the money that makes a project happen is in the audience, not in the envelope.
How it works
Five steps, in order. The whole thing is designed to be short at your end and public at ours.
-
Send a proposal
One page is enough. What you want to make, who it is for, where it would happen, and what the grant would pay for. Proposals come by email — there is nothing to create an account for.
-
We read everything
Proposals are read by the coalition. Ten to fifteen are selected to present.
-
You present it live
Each selected proposal gets the stage and a fixed slot — short, spoken, no panel to sit through. Everyone presents to the same room on the same night.
-
The room is the point
That room is the general public, the initiative’s existing audience, and funders. The proposals are put in front of people who are in a position to pay for them.
-
$3,500, whatever happens next
Every selected proposal receives a grant of $3,500 — not a prize, and not contingent on what the room does. It is there so the work can start.
